How to Fix the Linksys BEFW11S4 Router

So I have the Linksys BEFW11S4 – Wireless-B Broadband Router, and it had firmware version 1.52.02, which is the latest. Over the last 6 months or so, streaming the 30 seconds previews of music from Amazon, and viewing videos from some sites such as YouTube caused the router to completely lock. The only way to re-establish an Internet connection was to pull out the power, wait a few seconds, and plug the power back in.
This morning, I downgraded the firmware to version 1.50.14. All the problems are gone now.
So if you have the same router with the same problems, downgrade today!

Keith: You’re welcome.

I have the NetGear WGR614 wireless router, and a similar weird thing happens whenever someone who’s connected to the router visits a MySpace page. It causes the whole internet connection to slow down tremendously, making all browsing, email, etc, painfully sluggish for everyone connected to the router. This is not only while the MySpace page is loading; it persists for a few minutes even after that person closes the MySpace page. As if MySpace isn’t aggravating enough…

I’ve got my fingers crossed. I’m having the same problem as you.

Brad: let me know how it turns out.

Didn’t work for me, same problem over and over.

Azerban: I am glad it worked for you.
Flyapart: I am sorry that it didn’t work for you. My router has been flaky lately, and I will likely buy a new router before the end of June. You may need to do the same.

Hi,

That’s great info.

I came a cross that router when cleaning up my sister’s house but couldn’t find the adaptor for it. Can someone gives me the adaptor info and also where I can get one?

I need an adaptor for Linksys BEFW 11S4. Where to go?

Just get a universal adapter from futureshop and read up on the voltage settings. Good luck

When I try to upgrade to this firmware the page goes to a blank internet page. Any suggestions? I am also trying to change settings and it requires a password other than admin and I have done a hard reset. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks heaps man, worked like a charm. I looked around the Linksys website and some forums, it doesn’t look like Linksys is going to admit to this fault, even though it seems so widespread. Oh well, when I upgrade to a new router, now I know not to go for Linksys again.
